Ahh the big apple!! What can you say about the concrete jungle? This place is absolutely amazing!! We flew out to watch Mishella run the ING New York Marathon on Sunday November 6th! She did amazing!26.2 miles and still had a smile on her face at the end!
We started our journey on Wednesday night with the red-eye flight. Let me tell you 5 am is too early to land! After getting our bags, meeting at Laurie's house and freshening up we finally hit the pavement for some much needed exploring. We meet Greg in the city (it was the first time I had seen him in a week, so needless to say I was a happy girl!) We shopped around Time Square, hung out at Bryant Park, went to Rockefeller Center, went to the "Top of the Rock". We did a lot of walking this day! That night Greg and I took the train to Jersey to stay with Dre for the night. We were in such a rush to make our train that we forgot my entire suitcase in the back of the cab!! Luckly, the cabbie remembered and honked at us to get our attention! Whoops!
Each year at New Years they drop confetti on Times Square. Well, you are able to write you hopes and dreams for the new year on one of the confetti and it will be dropped with the rest at midnight!!
The view from the Top of the Rock
Yah, I jacked G's glasses! They look better on me :)
FRIDAY!
The next morning Greg, Dre and I went to the Statue of Liberty. What an amazing site to see, but to be honest after you stand and look at it for a few minutes you are bored and want off the island.
Greg is trying to take a picture through the eye holes!! Wait till you see it!
We finally made it back into the city to check into our hotel. We stayed at the Hamptons in Soho. Not too shabby! It felt clean and new, and that is all I needed!! But, dear god the rooms in New York are SMALL! The room was hardly big enough to fit a king bed and two night stands. We had to step over our luggage.
Friday night we went to Central Park where they were having the opening ceremonies for the race. The did a parade of nations, so all of the countries that are participating in the run could be recgonized. Mishella was selected as the Guam deligate, so she got to wave her countries flag proudly!
There's our girl!!
She was so proud!
We ended the night having dinner at a Churrascaria Riodizio Tribeca. We should have known when they didn't give us menus when they seated us that we were in for a surprise. The food was amazing. Men carrying huge slabs of beef, chicken, lamb and pig come by, what seems like every minute, asking you if you want some. You never have to leave your table, your food comes to you! After drinks, dessert and coffee we got the bill....$350 for 3 people!!! YIKES! All we could do was laugh.
The boys and their meat!
SATURDAY!
Saturday our friend Shauna came to hang out with us in the city! We met Mishella, Carlo and his mom down near the World Trade Center. What a surreal site to see. They only problem is they block off the site with a fence. You have to "book a tour" to be able to see inside. Yet, the tours are booked 2 weeks out. So we got to see a fence!
Like everything else in New York, there is a fence around the bull. 4 beautiful ladies! Shauna, Carlo's mom, Mishella and I
Grab the bull by the balls!
We are walking down the street and we hear this loud comotion. About 20 people are covered head to toe in velcrow suits and they have "Perky Jerky" stuck to them. All they ask is that you "pluck" it off them!
We walked by the Occupy Wall Street protesters. It looks like a homeless city! People in the middle of Wall Street with tents, canopys and sleeping bags. All that was missing was people playing hackie sack!
Mishella was determined to "carb load" herself before the race so we all met in Little Italy for an Italian fest on Saturday night. After dinner Carlo kissed Mishella goodnight and we all sent her in a cab back to the hotel to sleep while we went out and played! The Standard hotel in New York has a beer garden that is suppose to mimick Germany. Bitburger on tap!! Brought me back to Europe!
Dinner in Little Italy
Thirsty boy at the beer garden!
Yahhh Bitburger!! Just like in Germany. Cheers!
SUNDAY!
Sunday morning was filled with brunch and mimosas with Dre (I was so excited that I had a mimosa and Sangria buddy in New York!) It was the day of the race so after brunch we rushed in a cab to make it up to mile 23 of the race to see Mishella go by. Well after standing there for an hour we began to wonder where she was! Since the tracking device that I spent $3 on to track Mishella wasn't working, I had to text Tracy in San Diego to find out where Mishella was....She had passed us!!! She passed us and we didn't even see her! We were so bummed!
Mimosas in a Mason jar!! Love it!!
But......where's Mishella!!??
We ended Sunday as we always do...with Sunday Funday in the Village. Dre, Greg and I found a bar that had loads of tvs, beer pong, happy hour all night, karaoke, and they let you order food to be delivered to the bar! Chicken wings!!! The boys had a great time playing beer pong and watching foot ball....Thank you too all our friends that we got to see and hang out with this weekend. It was truly a weekend to remember!!
The boys outside of Wicked Willey, in their bike cab. Thats the bouncer that for some reason loved them :)
Please excuse the blurry pictures. Most were taken from our phones. Our camera died and some blonde girl forgot the charger!
Beer pong champion!
New York, we loved you so much!! Don't worry the Klisser's are already RSVPing for next year!!!
